UNICEF Dives into Cryptocurrency

UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) have announced they are diving directly into the cryptocurrency scene by starting a fund that can receive, hold, and distribute donations of Bitcoin and Ethereum. These donations will be put to good use as the funded technology will directly benefit children around the globe.

UNICEF Executive Director, Henrietta Fore stated that:

“This is a new and exciting venture for UNICEF. If digital
economies and currencies have the potential to shape the lives of coming
generations, it is important that we explore the opportunities they offer.
That’s why the creation of our Cryptocurrency Fund is a significant and welcome
step forward in humanitarian and development work.”

This is extremely positive news for not only UNICEF and the children, but cryptocurrency as a whole because new and exciting ways to help people are upon us through this technology.

UNICEF will be receiving their first donation of $18,000 from the Ethereum Foundation itself, as they are quoted saying:

“The Ethereum Foundation is excited to demonstrate the power
of what Ethereum and blockchain technology can do for communities around the
world. Together with UNICEF, we’re taking action with the Cryptofund to improve
access to basic needs, rights, and resources. We aim to support the research
and development of the Ethereum platform, and to grow the community of those
that benefit from a technology that will better countless lives and industries
in the years to come. We’d like to thank UNICEF and the UNICEF family of
national committees for their leadership as we create real progress together.”

Together with the French National Committee for UNICEF, the Ethereum Foundation will be able to make their donation to help the children. USA, Australia, and New Zealand UNICEF National Committee’s have also joined the party by accepting cryptocurrency donations.

We have seen a lot of projects launched in 2019 and charities
that use cryptocurrency are growing which is great news for everyone involved!
